Woopy doo daa, we rented a car… Travelling from Sete to Sete via Spain in two days

Friday, 2 June 2017 to Thursday, 8 June 2017I suspect many people in Europe do not own a car and rely solely on public transport. We have proved over the last two months that this was indeed possible but it was now time to spread our wings further inland. And although there are bus routes inland I suspect the schedules are such that you cannot do daytrips, and would have to overnight when venturing further afield. Thus, renting a car at this point, for a month, made perfect sense, i.e. two weeks in Séte and two in Marseille. Continue reading

Day 4 – Bilbao to Salamanca

Salamanca---2

Woke up early, did breakfast at the hotel and took a brisk walk to the Guggenheim Museum. Some 20 minutes later we were face to face with this icon. The architecture of the building, it’s history, the permanent exhibition, the latest exhibition by David Hockney, it is all just too much to take in at once. (Picture: Bilbao 1, 2, etc. The exhibition by David Hockney is in one word, incredible, an absolute must-see. Continue reading

Woke up too late for breakfast at the hotel, so decided to have something to eat in town. Remembered seeing a Vodafone shop the previous evening so went there to get a sim for the ipad. We had a pleasant breakfast after which we packed up and left Cadaques, ostensibly straight for San Sabastian, on the north coast of Spain, a long drive. But, at the last minute we decided to go north along the coast to El Port de la Selva. This is a decision I will never regret. The hotel manager where we stayed mentioned that it was sort of similar to Cadaques, but that was really an understatement. Driving into El Port de la Selva one really just feels at home with the Continue reading

Had a very pleasant flight on air France. Air hosts and hostesses were very friendly, a refreshing change from some airlines who believe their personnel’s “stiff upper lip” attitude can be fobbed off as professionalism. Well done Air France.

Transited via Paris and arrived in Barcelona at around 7:30. Picked up our luggage and proceeded to Avis to pick up the rental car that was booked. With five customers in front of us Continue reading
