We went shopping for a weapon of mozzie mass destruction… Adri was not winning this battle on her own, and I’m too timid to join in the fight. Last week we did buy and try those spiral thingies that sits atop this pathetic little aluminium throne and burns only at its own behest, in the process giving off a foul smell. I suspect it works better outside the home but there’s no specific rule to that. Continue reading
Celebrating Bastille Day in Marseille, moving home to Lyon, and doing the Tour de France… all in a week’s work
Friday, 14 July 2017 to Thursday, 20 July 2017
Today was Bastille day, or the National day of France, with major celebrations across the country. The Bastille Day fireworks celebration in Marseille was blown away by a substantial and sustained wind that blew all day and all night. So we were going to miss watching more than 10,000 rockets exploding over the Old Port on the Mediterranean Sea due to this wind, what a pity! Continue reading
Our last week in Marseille we spent time on the beach, with Maladie and with Orange
Friday, 7 July 2017 to Thursday, 13 July 2017
Since my blowout a few weeks back I’ve been searching for new plakkas (sandals) but none of the plentiful pairs that I’ve tried on speaks to me, there’s not even a whisper. So this morning we walked up to the Topy shoe repair shop to see whether my dearly departed could be resurrected. After a prod here and a stretch there the prognosis was positive, they could do something for it. “Combien?” (How much?), I innocently Continue reading
One last road trip to the Luberon before returning our Panda to its rightful owner
Friday, 30 June 2017 to Thursday, 6 July 2017
Today was as perfect as a day could be… But I digress way too early… It was our last planned full one-day road trip before we had to return our car to its rightful owner on Monday. The weather was a pleasant 25°C as we headed north out of Marseille, and so it would remain for the rest of the day, very comfortable. Continue reading
How to do the Côte d’Azur, or French Riviera, in two days
After missing a few items during our first round of grocery shopping at Carrefour I was sent to collect the rest from our Casino Supermarket located directly below us… very convenient. Without Adri breathing down my neck and back to hurry up at the liquor location I had time to marvel, imagine and fantasize. Continue reading
I finally reached my roots… in La Motte d’Aigues
Friday, 16 June 2017 to Thursday, 22 June 2017
Having arrived in Marseille last night we wanted to sleep in this morning but of course that would have been expensive, we had to move our car by 08:00 or face the wrath of rules and regulations. It was just before 08:00 that we put our Panda into gear and started looking for alternate parking. Continue reading
Our time in Sète has come to an end, but new adventures await us in Marseille!
Friday, 9 June 2017 to Thursday, 15 June 2017
Still feeling the effects of the long drive during the last two days from Sète to Sète via Cadaques I did not become fully conscious much before 10:00 this morning. Who would have thought!
We worked most of the day and it was late afternoon when we dragged our still weary bodies up the road to the copy shop. Continue reading
Woopy doo daa, we rented a car… Travelling from Sete to Sete via Spain in two days
Friday, 2 June 2017 to Thursday, 8 June 2017I suspect many people in Europe do not own a car and rely solely on public transport. We have proved over the last two months that this was indeed possible but it was now time to spread our wings further inland. And although there are bus routes inland I suspect the schedules are such that you cannot do daytrips, and would have to overnight when venturing further afield. Thus, renting a car at this point, for a month, made perfect sense, i.e. two weeks in Séte and two in Marseille. Continue reading
Visiting Marseillan Plage, not for its plage, but for its menu du jour
Friday, 26 May 2017 to Thursday, 1 June 2017
It was just before 09:00 that I started working on the blog with my trusty friend at my side to keep me awake and willing. Adri was still fast asleep, she read into the early hours of the morning so I let her be. There was to be no yoga, only a big breakfast, I needed all the sustenance I could muster for the task ahead. I blogged and I blogged and finally published at 16:30, and yup, it was time for a reward, time for a beer. Continue reading
Cap d’Agde… Yachts, yachts, yachts… Yachts everywhere!
Friday, 19 May 2017 to Thursday, 25 May 2017
Our travelling plans for the next few months were now slowly starting to take shape. We will be in Sète until mid June; the month thereafter will be spent in Marseille where after Lyon is lurking beyond that, where we will be until mid August.
Now many may question our reasoning for going to Marseille because, apparently, you either love or loathe it, but most people Continue reading
