The latest:

After hibernating in Brittany for the winter we needed sunshine so headed to the south of France to a little town called Saint-Thibery not far from Montpellier. After a month there we took a five day road trip to Greece (Corfu) via France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and finally we landed on Corfu. Here we stayed for a month and then moved to Lefkada, an island further south.

We immensely enjoyed Lefkada, left it a month later with heavy hearts and then stayed in Thessaloniki in the northern part of Greece for a week. From there we left for North Macedonia (Skopje), did a side trip to Kosovo (Pristina), then it was on to Bulgaria (Sofia) and now we find ourselves in another part of Bulgaria, Plovdiv. We intend to spend a bit more time in Bulgaria, then move on to Romania (Bucharest), Serbia (Belgrade), Bosnia Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and then it should be time to head back home to France.

The story from the beginning:

We started off our sabbatical mid 2015 in Thailand. We lived on the beautiful tropical island of Koh Samui for seven months from where we moved on to Chiang Mai on the mainland for just over a month. Then we were off to Indonesia where we stayed a week each in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and the island of Lombok.

From Indonesia we flew back to Bangkok where we stayed for a month, after which we spent  five weeks in Hua Hin, then a few days in Bangkok again, and then we landed in Nong Song Hong for four months. From there we spent a few days in Chiang Mai and then we were off to Pai where we spent the next three and a bit weeks. From Pai we went back to Chiang Mai for two days and then on to Chiang Rai where we stayed until early December 2016.

After we left Chiang Rai we spent a week in Bangkok and then we were off to Koh Samui where our journey started back in June 2015. It was wonderful to get reacquainted with all the friends we had made when we were there last, so we really enjoyed this holiday within a holiday by the sea!

We left Koh Samui mid January 2017 and travelled to Europe where we spent a month in Serbia (Belgrade) and thereafter a month in Montenegro (Budva), loved both countries. Mid March 2017 we moved to France and were staying in the Montpellier region, then Marseille, Lyon and Paris and then arrived in Amsterdam mid August.

We completed a one month road trip which started in the Netherlands (Amsterdam). It took us through Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, back to Slovenia, then on to Italy, Austria, Germany and finally back to the Netherlands. We then returned to South Africa for a well deserved rest.

After our well deserved rest in South Africa between mid October 2017 and end January 2018 we returned to France and specifically Brittany where we stayed for five weeks, sorting out admin and more. We then were off for a two-week side trip to Normandy after which we returned to Brittany for a few more weeks.

We left Brittany and headed to the south of France in search of sunshine and stayed in the coastal town of Le-Grau-du-Roi for a month and then were off to Italy for the next 3.5 months. During the first two weeks we got reacquainted with Lake Como and then spent a month each in the beautiful Cinque Terre region, Sicily and lastly Tuscany.

After our sojourn to Italy (Lake Como, Cinque Terre region, Sicily and Tuscany) starting mid 2018 we returned to France (Brittany) in September. At the beginning of October 2018 we took a side trip to Spain (Barcelona) for a two week “holiday”, catching the last glimpses of sunlight before returning to Brittany to hibernate for the winter.
